Archipelago traffic

Archipelago vessel

The archipelago services are a necessary, valued part of Stockholm’s harbour traffic. Ports of Stockholm’s task is to rent quay-berths for the archipelago boats, maintain the quayside and provide services to vessels such as electricity, fresh water and waste management.

All year there are departures from Stockholm’s central docks to Djurgården and the larger islands in the archipelago, as well as inland to Lake Mälaren. There are also many different pleasure trips on offer.

Each year around 2.3 million passengers travel by boat to Djurgården and the Fjäderholmen islands. Boat traffic to the islands in Lake Mälaren and the archipelago attract 1.7 million passengers a year.

The ‘Waxholm’ services depart from Strömkajen by the Grand Hotel, Strömma Kanalbolaget boats set off from Klara Mälarstrand by the imposing City Hall, while several smaller companies run archipelago services from Skeppsbron. The Djurgården ferry runs from Skeppsbron.
