Over the Easter weekend the industrial branch line that Ports of Stockholm has built to Stockholm Norvik Port was connected to the railway network and electrified. This creates a direct railway link to and from the port on the Green Cargo intermodal network for national and international transport.

Stockholm Norvik Port has a smart buoy
A buoy known as a smart buoy has been installed in the shipping fairway just outside Stockholm Norvik Port. This is an energy efficient navigation beacon with the technology to position-monitor and remotely adjust the buoy’s light intensity. The buoy is part of the EU Intelligent Sea project, which is using digitalisation to improve safety and efficiency in shipping fairways.

Inland shipping collaboration between Ports of Stockholm and Mälarhamnar
Ports of Stockholm and Mälarhamnar have joined forces to facilitate sustainable transport and inland shipping between Stockholm Norvik Port and the strategically located Mälarhamnar ports in Västerås and Köping. The collaboration expands the offerings at the ports and will provide good preconditions for barge traffic, similar to that seen on European rivers.

Straddle carriers arrive at Stockholm Norvik Port
The first two straddle carriers have now been delivered to Stockholm Norvik Port, Sweden's new freight port. The carriers are 16 metres in height and are intended to operate autonomously within the next couple of years.
