The Stockholm Norvik container terminal will open in successive stages

The two cranes at Stockholm Norvik Port

The major infrastructure project to construct the Stockholm Norvik Port is now entering its final phase as far as the container terminal is concerned. Sweden’s newest freight port will open in successive stages during the spring.

Despite the current situation, over the next few months Hutchison Ports, one of the world’s largest container operators, will open the container terminal at the Stockholm Norvik Port gradually.

For as smooth a transition as possible, and to ensure no disruption to customer services, operations will be gradually transferred from the container terminal at the Frihamnen Port to the container terminal at the Stockholm Norvik Port. The exact date of the first vessel call at the new port remains to be confirmed.

Work is continuing on the RoRo terminal, which will be run by Ports of Stockholm. Operations in that area of the port are planned to begin in the autumn.

Opening ceremony postponed

The official opening of the container terminal has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The opening ceremony planning will begin again as soon as the recommendations of Public Health Agency of Sweden allow.
