Ports of Stockholm to invest in new cruise ship quay
Ports of Stockholm is one of the world’s largest passenger ports. A EUR 1,5 million investment to create a new cruise quay is now planned, which will double the capacity for cruise ships. The investment will begin in 2021 and the quay will be fully operational for the 2023 cruise season.

Sweden’s first inland shipping barge shuttle service has started from Stockholm Norvik Port
Sweden’s first container barge shuttle service on inland waterways started operation on June 1st between Stockholm Norvik Port and the Port of Västerås. The container barge shuttle service carries the equivalent of around 200 road haulage vehicles, alleviating road network congestion and significantly decreasing carbon dioxide emissions in the region. Services will be operated by German shipping company Deymann.

The Mein Schiff 1 cruise ship has kicked off the cruise season at Ports of Stockholm. Despite the pandemic, Stockholm is still a top choice destination as cruise organisers slowly but surely start up voyages again, not least because the ships can call at quays located in the heart of the beautiful city of Stockholm.

Container shortage creates new Stockholm Norvik Port export volumes
Exports via the Stockholm Norvik Port container terminal continue to rise. The shortage of empty containers in Sweden, and in other parts of the world, has created other export routes. The unique access to empty containers at Stockholm Norvik has led to more and more export goods being shipped via Sweden’s new major port.

At Ports of Stockholm’s northernmost port, Port of Kapellskär, transhipment cargo handling has reached a higher gear. The increased demand for goods handling emphasises the port’s position as one of Sweden's most important freight ports.

New rail cargo volumes to and from Stockholm Norvik Port
Goods are being transported by new sustainable services to and from Stockholm Norvik Port. Fully loaded goods trains now run weekly between southern Sweden and Stockholm Norvik Port. These trains carry goods previously transported on the congested road network.

Freight is up nine percent at Port of Kapellskär
There is an upward trend in freighted goods at Port of Kapellskär, Ports of Stockholm’s largest freight port. Despite the worldwide pandemic, freight volumes in 2020 increased nine percent compared to the previous year.
